What is an Example of Affiliate Marketing?

What is an Example of Affiliate Marketing?

Sometimes, the best way of learning something new is to see real examples of how it's implemented.

So that's what I'm going to show you here and help you to achieve the same thing.

I've been a successful affiliate marketer for years and represent a lot of vendors with affiliate programs.

What I intend to do here is give you some examples of successful affiliate marketing and then cover the steps that were taken to achieve them.

Ready?

Great. Then here we go.

Affiliate Marketing Example #1: ClickBank

The Flat Belly Fix ClickBank Affiliate

The Flat Belly Fix is one of ClickBank's best sellers, with an average affiliate commission payment of $46.67 per conversion.

The screenshot to the left is from my landing page for The Flat Belly Fix on my Aging Slowdown website. You can see the whole page at Flat Belly Fix Landing Page.

This page takes its facts from information provided by the vendor, but is not a copy of the vendor's sales message.

If you scroll down the page, you will see that I give away a book The Home Workout Bible and four exercise videos to anyone who buys The Flat Belly Fix through my link. Many people looking to diet are also looking to exercise, so this giveaway is sure to appeal. It adds extra value without costing me a cent. And, most importantly, the purchaser is added to my mailing list.

How to be a ClickBank Affiliate

Let's examine just how this is done.

This assumes that you already have a website in a specific niche. If this isn't the case, start at Your $49 Website.

First up, you need a ClickBank affiliate id. This is a simple, straightforward process. Just go to the ClickBank website and sign up.

Use the ClickBank Marketplace to find a product in your niche that has good reviews, a high gravity (this indicates that other affiliates are doing well with it) and a decent affiliate commission. Get your ClickBank affiliate link for the selected product. This is a simple button click.

Create a landing page that pre-sells the product and includes your affiliate link. The Thrive Suite includes a large number of great-looking landing page templates and Thrive's built-in drag n drop editor, Thrive Architect gives you simple, straightforward tools to create text, buttons or images containing your ClickBank product affiliate link.

Promote your landing page by writing keyword rich blog posts to get free traffic (as taught in Wealthy Affiliate) or by advertising on platforms such as Facebook, Google Ads and Bing Ads.

Make sales and get paid automatically.

Affiliate Marketing Example #2: Amazon

Golf Rangefinders Amazon Affiliate Landing Page

Most affiliate marketers have a love/hate relationship with Amazon.

Love because

  • As long as you have a halfway decent website, it's really easy to become an Amazon affiliate through the Amazon Associates program and
  • If you can drive visitors who are genuine buyers of the product, sales are pretty much guaranteed. This is because of Amazon's high trust factor.

Hate because

  • Commissions are low and
  • If you don't make 3 sales in the first 6 months, you will be dropped from the program.

The image to the left is from the rangefinder landing page from my Driven by Golf website. You can see the complete page at Rangefinder Landing Page. Note that there are affiliate links to multiple rangefinders on this page, under the headings

  • The Best
  • The Best Seller
  • The Best Cheap Rangefinder
  • Highly Recommended
  • Best Budget Rangefinders under $200
  • The Full Range of Rangefinders Available from Amazon.

I also write blog posts targeting one specific rangefinder, containing links back to this landing page.

How to be an Amazon Affiliate

Let's examine just how this is done.

This assumes that you already have a website in a specific niche. If this isn't the case, start at Your $49 Website.

First up, you need an Amazon affiliate id. This is a simple, straightforward process. Just go to the Amazon Associates website and sign up.

One of the main differences with Amazon as an affiliate partner is that you are not free to use your own images.

You have to go to your Amazon account and find a product to promote.

Then right at the very top of the screen, you will see a bar labeled Amazon SiteStripe.

Amazon SiteStripe

You can click on Text, Image or Text+Image to get html code which will display the selected product with your Amazon affiliate id built in.

My preference is to use Image with Text shown underneath it as you get a larger, clearer display that way than if you choose Text+Image.

You should experiment to see how the different options look.

The simplest way to display html on your website exactly the way you want is to use Thrive Architect, the drag n drop editor you get with the Thrive Suite.

The other great thing about Amazon is that if a visitor clicks on your link and then, in the same session buys something else from Amazon, you'll get the affiliate commission on that product. For example, if someone clicked on one of my rangefinder links, got taken to Amazon and saw a set of golf clubs they wanted and bought them, I would get the affiliate commission on the golf clubs. And of course, if they bought the rangefinder and then added the golf clubs to their cart, I would get paid for both.

Affiliate Marketing Example #3: Independent Vendor

Both ClickBank and Amazon are portals that have a number of vendors associated with them.

Other portals include CJ (Commission Junction), JVZoo and Warrior Plus. You can check out their websites to see what they offer.

But you can also go direct to vendors who have their own affiliate program. It can be harder to get approval but the rewards can be high.

To start, search for your niche name + affiliate.

So if you were in the weight loss niche, you'd search for "weight loss affiliate".

Weight Loss Affiliate Programs

There are literally thousands to choose from, so spend some time checking them out.

The questions to ask include:

  • Do they have an attractive website (you'll be sending visitors there, so it needs to look professional)
  • Does the product have good reviews (search for product name + reviews)
  • Does it appeal to you personally (you'll be more convincing if it does) and, of couse
  • Can you make decent affiliate commission from it?

The approval process will normally involve looking at your website, so make your it's ready for inspection.

And if you're asked how you will promote their product, the best answers are organic search and email marketing to your own list.

Affiliate Marketing Application Tip:

Don't be dismayed if your application for affiliate marketing with the site is immediately rejected. Some vendors set up their affiliate program to automatically reject new applicants. This is to protect themselves from bots and tire kickers. It just means you will need to contact them by email and apply that way.

Affiliate Marketing Setup Tip:

On your landing page for the affiliate product, it's a good idea to offer your visitor a related freebie in exchange for their name and email address. This is so that you capture their details into your mailing list and can sell to them in the future. This is called lead generation.

The Thrive Suite gives you tools to create a lead generation form and connect it to one of the popular mailing list services, such as Active Campaign, MailChimp, AWeber or GetResponse.

It wasn't until I learned how to build a genuine business (I now have 22 of them) in both affiliate marketing and e-commerce, using the platform and tools that I tell you about on this website, that I turned it all around.
