Motivation Gets You Started, Habit Keeps You Going
It's Motivation That Gets You Started
Joining a gym is a great example. It's usually motivated by something specific.
You look in the mirror and think "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fattest of them all?"
Or the elevator's out of order and you realize that you can no longer walk (let alone run) up a flight of stairs without being out of breath.
But It's Habit That Keeps You Going
Most people who join a gym start off enthusiastically but stop going after a short time, sometimes only two or three visits. Even if they've signed up for a 6 month membership.
Something else comes up, or they don't feel well or... some other excuse. And then they never get started again.
But the real reason is that it never became a habit.
Make a decision to go to the gym three times a week (for example) on specific days at specific times when you know you'll be available. Make a solemn promise to yourself (and, if possible to others who will hold you accountable) to stick it out exactly for three weeks.
At the end of the three weeks, it will have become a HABIT and your chances of keeping on going have improved exponentially.
It's the Same with Your Online Business
The motivation will have been different, but the principle is the same.
You may have lost your job or feel that it's insecure or maybe you just don't enjoy it.
Perhaps you want to spend more time with family.
Or get a new car or go on an overseas vacation.
You could be looking at a frighteningly underfunded retirement.
All great motivation to start your new online business. And a great reason to join Wealthy Affiliate. Find out how you can get personally mentored by me HERE.
Get into the Habit
Then you discover you've got to put some work into it. Both learning and doing.
The best way to get where you need to go is to get into the habit.
You've found your niche and built and launched your website. Now you've got to do keyword research and write a keyword rich blog post.
And you've got to do it over and over again.
First, decide your frequency and get to know how long each one will take.
Just like the gym visits, decide for example that you'll write three blog posts a week, the first on Monday at 8pm, the second on Wednesday at the same time and the third on Saturday after lunch.
After three weeks, you've written nine new blog posts, you're starting to see results, you and the family have got used to working around your schedule. You've created a HABIT.
In six months, your website has 78 blog posts and you are well on your way to being regarded as an expert in your niche.
