How to Get Backlinks
Backlink Advice from an Angel
My angel returned this evening and we continued our chat about backlinks. This time she revealed how important infographics can be.
How Google Became #1
First, she reminded me of why backlinks remain important to getting good Google rankings. Google ascended to become the preeminent search engine through two innovative approaches:
Firstly, it wasn't necessary to manually submit your site to Google; they deployed software that autonomously scoured the internet to discover websites, diverging from the manual directory model akin to the Yellow Pages adopted by other search engines.
Secondly, Google introduced a pioneering method to ascertain a website's "rank" based on its popularity, which was assessed by the quantity of other sites linking to it. The incorporation of "backlinks" was a groundbreaking concept.
As time progressed, Google has undergone remarkable development, now prioritizing high-quality content and continuously refining its algorithms to assess this quality.
Yet, the influence of backlinks remains ingrained in the core architecture of Google's original programming, retaining a level of significance that is often underestimated.
Unlocking the Power of Infographics

Contrary to what you might assume, crafting an exceptional infographic can be a magnet for backlinks. The typical perception of infographics is someone firing up Canva, plugging in some text, and dropping in images.
That method is fine, but it's unlikely to create a sensation. Now, consider this example.
This particular infographic has circulated the web thousands of times. Ponder its success:
• It’s educational, conveying vital data in a format that’s easy to assimilate.
• The design is striking yet not overwhelming, balancing information density with aesthetic.
• It has a universal appeal. Though it might resonate most with marketers, it has the potential to captivate a broad online audience.
On their website, they tell you that you are welcome to use the image and ask you to attribute it to Visual Capitalist and link back to their website page at Ranked: The 50 Most Visited Websites in the World (visualcapitalist.com). So, as you can see, they've just gained another backlink!
Crafting such infographics is the real test, isn't it? It's hardly an easy feat. I, for one, am not up to the task. But if you're in a position to hire a designer, the payoff can be significant.
